ASK Direct2008-10-29 ASK Direct sells consumer electronics through a chain of five busy stores in London. Working in a fast-paced competitive environment, the availability, speed and reliability of the company’s IT Infrastructure is critical to business.The Challenge As the stores operations expanded, the existing IT systems and hardware were proving insufficient to meet business requirements. And with the stores open seven days a week, it was critical for the company to make any changes without significant downtimes. Several computers were over five years old and there was a need to replace them with new hardware while saving on costs and avoiding unnecessary license renewals. The Solution MAN Consulting worked with ASK Direct for two days on a consultancy basis to ascertain requirements. MAN Consulting then provided a simple plan for an upgrade to new computer servers with no business downtime. The two new servers were set up in one day and the transfer of systems to new hardware was completed overnight. Complete support for migration was provided to ensure that all the data and system software were transferred without any loss of data. The Result The changes were achieved with no business downtime. All users were able to start the new day on new systems with no further training or any interruptions to the work day. As no rebuilding was required and old operating systems and applications were migrated, there were significant savings on software licenses. Currently MAN provides advice and support to ASK Direct for any custom IT issues and requirements.
